Member poll, in preparation
When is the right time to tell a date about your mental health?
We are preparing to put this question to a vote among Mental Health Singles members rather than answering it on their behalf. The vote has not opened. There are no figures on this page, only the question, the five answers the poll will offer, and what will be published alongside any result.
The question we will ask
When is the right time to tell a date about your mental health?
One question and five answers. The poll is intended to take one vote per member, and the list below is what it will offer, not findings from anybody.
- On your profile, up front
- After a few messages, before meeting
- Once there is some trust, a few dates in
- On the first date, in person
- Only if and when it becomes relevant
Anyone whose choice is none of the five will be able to write their own answer instead.
Why we are not answering it for you
Each of those five answers costs something. Putting it on your profile spares you weeks of quiet dread, and it also makes a diagnosis the first thing a stranger learns about you. Waiting until there is trust lets someone meet you as a person first, and it leaves you carrying the question around in the meantime. Which trade is worth making depends on the person, on the condition, and honestly on the week they are having. That is a poor thing to guess at on somebody else's behalf. Our guide to dating with a mental health condition works through the timing properly, and it does not need a vote to do it.
What will be published once members have answered
A percentage on its own is close to meaningless, so nobody will be handed a bare one. Any figure that appears here will arrive with the number of people who voted, the dates the poll was open, and the raw count behind it. Anyone who votes will have chosen to vote, which skews a result, and any write-up will say so.
Status: in preparation. No votes have been collected yet.
Vote when it opens
Polls will run for signed-in members. Joining is free, and members will be able to vote and read every result once the first poll opens.
Correction
An earlier version of this page showed five percentages and a bar chart for this question. Those were placeholder figures written when the site was built, not member votes. They have been taken down, and the poll described above replaces them.
